Are you going on holiday or a (day) trip to the province Zeeland in The Netherlands? Then you can not skip the capital city Middelburg. You can visite great restaurants and even enjoy gluten free meals!
When the Dutch weather allows it, you can have lunch on a terrace!
At De vriendschap and at Brooklyn you can eat a delicious lunch. They have lots of gluten free options; almost everything on the menu is also available gluten free. And when weather is bad, you can go inside to enjoy your lunch. For a gluten free lunch you can also go to De Drukkerij. After you enjoyed a good meal you can walk around in the printing company (that is what the word ‘Drukkerij’ means in Dutch). I think this is a very nice combination!
Is it time for dinner?
At De Tamboer and at Hildernisse you are welcome to have a delicious gluten free meal. De Tamboer is a steakhouse where you can enjoy many different types of meat! Almost all the meat is available gluten free. At Hildernisse they serve many different fish dishes, and these dishes are almost all gluten free.
Do you like Italian food?
Then you are at the right place at La Piccola Italia, here they have several delicious gluten free options. For Italian cuisine, you can also visit Il senso, where they also have a wide selection of Mediterranean Foods on the menu. You can also enjoy Greek cuisine in Middelburg, at Onassis they are very well-informed about gluten free foods and it is deliciously prepared.
And for our sweet tooths…
At De Juf you can enjoy a gluten free high tea. This delicious high tea consists of a variety of delicious sweet snacks: a brownie, millionaire’s shortbread, lemon carré, quinoabar and a coconut crown. You can also buy gluten free pastries and / or cookies.
Just a nice place to walk in and have a treat!
Honeypie -The most cheerful and cozy tea house in Middelburg- sells gluten free pastries on set days, keep an eye on the website, or just give them a call before visiting!
What I recommend at all restaurants is to call in advance to inform them about your visit and tell them you eat gluten free (due to celiac disease). Also mention other allergies or food intolerance’s so they can prepare and take good care of this to make your visit worth wild!
